Plastic Step Ring Introduction

Step ring packing has been enhanced with flanged ends, which not only boosts the mechanical strength of the packing rings but also increases the likelihood of directional placement during filling due to the disruption of the packing structure's symmetry.

Due to the effect of the flange, the contact between the filler rings during stacking shifts from primarily linear to predominantly point contact. This not only increases the voids between the filler particles, reducing the resistance of gas passing through the filler layer, but also serves as convergence and dispersion points for liquid flow along the filler surface, thereby promoting the surface renewal of the liquid film and benefiting the enhancement of the mass transfer efficiency of the filler.

Plastic Step Ring Features

The step ring has a height-to-diameter ratio half that of the Bulette ring, and a conical flange is added to one end, reducing the resistance of gas passing through the bed and increasing the flux. The strength of the packing is also higher, and due to its structural characteristics, the packing within the packing layer is mostly in point contact. This not only increases the porosity and reduces pressure drop but also forms collection or dispersion points for liquid flow along the packing surface, promoting liquid film surface renewal and liquid mixing, leading to uniform gas-liquid distribution and increasing the surface area for mass transfer, thus enhancing efficiency. Typically made of plastic, ceramic, or metal, the material and structure vary. The metal step ring has a rib structure similar to the Bulette ring, with the tongue bent into a blade-like shape; the plastic and ceramic step rings have a rib structure similar to the plastic Bulette ring, with both crisscross and grid patterns.
