PBT is a milky white to opaque, crystalline thermoplastic polyester. It boasts high heat resistance, toughness, fatigue resistance, self-lubricating properties, low coefficient of friction, and weather resistance.PBT has low water absorption rate of only 0.1%, maintaining various properties (including electrical properties) in humid environments, as well as electrical insulation, although it has high volume resistivity and dielectric loss.PBT resists hot water, alkalis, acids, and oils, but is susceptible to halogen corrosion and has poor hydrolytic resistance. It can crystallize rapidly at low temperatures and has good molding properties. The drawbacks of PBT include low notch impact strength and high shrinkage during molding. Therefore, most products use glass fiber reinforcement or inorganic filling modification, which can double the tensile and flexural strengths and significantly increase the heat deflection temperature.PBT can operate at 140°C for extended periods. After glass fiber reinforcement, the products exhibit inconsistent shrinkage in both the longitudinal and transverse directions, which is prone to causing warping.
