Surge arrester selection and installation maintenance
There are two types of line surge arresters: those with series gaps and those without. Due to their different operating methods, they also differ in structural design compared to power station surge arresters.
Installation of surge arresters should be noted:
(1) Select transmission line towers located in areas prone to lightning strikes and install them simultaneously on both adjacent towers.
(2) Vertically arranged lines can only accommodate two phases, up and down.
(3) During installation, try to avoid applying force on the lightning rod and ensure a sufficient safety distance is maintained.
(4) The surge arrester should be grounded with a single ground wire along the tower, with a cross-sectional area not less than 25mm2, to minimize the impact of ground resistance.
Perform necessary maintenance post-commissioning:
(1) Regular insulation resistance measurements during power outages should show minimal variation over the years.
(2) Inspect and record the counter's operational status.
(3) Tighten the fasteners to prevent loosening.
(4) Return to 5a, perform 1 DC 1mA and 75% reference voltage leakage current measurement.
