The majority of marine ship stern bearings are now replaced by white metal bearings lubricated with oil, rather than the traditional water-lubricated bearings like iron plows and wood. These bearings have a high oil film bearing capacity and excellent lubrication properties, especially with their sealing devices effectively preventing seawater and sand from entering the stern tube, resulting in minimal wear. Consequently, the main engine and shafting operate more smoothly and reliably.
