With the increase in mill specifications and the demand for energy-saving and high-yield cement powder grinding, the adoption of closed-circuit grinding is an inevitable trend in the cement powder grinding process. The necessary equipment for closed-circuit grinding is a classifier. The function of the classifier is to timely select out particles of a certain particle size from the material exiting the mill. The classifier itself does not produce fine powder, but by promptly selecting out fine-grained materials, it prevents material agglomeration, adhesion to grinding media, and caking in the mill, which can reduce over-grinding of material inside the mill. It also allows for timely and convenient adjustments to the types of cement produced, enabling the production of high-fineness cement and improving the grinding efficiency.

The closed-circuit grinding system of pre-fine grinding equipment grinds materials as they enter the mill through the grinding head. The materials are crushed in the first compartment and quickly pass through to the second compartment via a separator plate. In the second compartment, the grinding media primarily effect the material through grinding, with minimal crushing. The smaller grinding media move in the mill cylinder, exhibiting a scraping, rolling, and sliding motion. During the falling and scraping process, the grinding media grind and peel the material particles. If the finely ground material is not promptly discharged to the system outside the loop, it will accumulate and linger longer inside the mill, leading to excessive grinding. Therefore, enhancing the classifier's ability to select fine powder aids in fully utilizing the mill's grinding capacity. The classifier is a crucial component of the grinding system, and its operating parameters affect the entire unit's production. The higher the classification efficiency of the classifier, the greater the output of finished products, and the higher the mill's production capacity. In the closed-loop system, the focus of cement powder grinding is primarily on the effect on relatively coarse particle sizes.

The primary functions of a classifier can be summarized as "dispersion," "separation," and "collection." Dispersion refers to the process of spreading the material as much as possible within the classifier, ensuring a certain spacing between particle grains. Therefore, the structure, speed, size of the spreading area, moisture content of the material, and flow rate of the material all directly affect the spreading and dispersion efficiency. Separation involves using various airflow methods to sort the dispersed material within the limited residence time in the classifier, aiming to separate coarse and fine particles as effectively as possible and direct them to their respective outlets. Collection refers to the ability to capture both coarse and fine powders, which is related to the collection method and the structure of the collection components. Thus, gas flow rate, airflow speed, airflow pattern, gas-solid intersection points, flow field distribution, and the number and structure of the classifier all significantly impact the separation efficiency.
