The principle of operation for the ionization flame detector

The Ion Flame Monitor is a flame detection device developed based on the one-way conductivity principle of flames. It consists of two parts: a sensor and a monitor. The sensor is an electrode with good conductivity, known as the flame detection electrode. When the detection electrode contacts the flame, a weak flame ion current passes through the burner circuit. This signal is amplified and processed by the monitor, providing a flame indication, which is then controlled by external devices through the switching of relay output contacts.

Due to the continuous emission of pollutants from various gases and liquid fuels during combustion, which can oxidize or clog the electrodes, affecting the reception of flame signals, it is necessary to regularly inspect and clean the electrode tips to ensure reliable conduction of flame current signals by the electrodes.

If the electrodes are damaged and deformed, they should not be forced to be used and new electrodes should be replaced promptly. During the operation of the equipment, if unstable flame signals or sparking occur, the electrode connections should be checked for correctness and tightness, and for any short-circuiting between the electrodes and the burner. Any of these issues should be addressed promptly.
