Welding stress refers to the internal stress within the welded workpiece caused by the welding process. It can be categorized into two types based on the time of its occurrence: welding instantaneous stress and welding residual stress. Welding instantaneous stress varies with temperature changes during the welding process; welding residual stress, on the other hand, is the stress that remains after the workpiece cools down to its initial temperature. Depending on the direction within the workpiece, welding stress can be classified into longitudinal stress, transverse stress, and thickness stress. In reality, welding stress is a three-dimensional stress, but for thin plates, the thickness stress is relatively minor and can be treated as a two-dimensional stress.

The greater the temperature difference on the component, the higher the residual stress from welding. Preheating the component before welding can reduce the temperature difference and slow down the cooling rate, both of which can decrease the residual welding stress. Preheating is often used to reduce stress during the welding of alloys (excluding Austenitic stainless steel), thick plates, and rigid components. If it is difficult to preheat the entire component, local preheating can be used, which involves heating the area around the weld and at least 80mm on either side. Narrow heating zones can cause new temperature difference stresses.

Process of vibration treatment method development
Vibration treatment involves supporting the component with the appropriate elastic material, with the support position being as close as possible to the resonance frequency of the component.
