Germany GS Certification Introduction
The meaning of GS is "Geprüfte Sicherheit" in German, which translates to "Certified Safety," and also implies "Germany Safety." GS certification is based on the German Product Safety Law (SGS) and is a voluntary certification conducted according to the EU unified standard EN or the German industrial standard DIN. It is a widely recognized German safety certification mark in the European market.
The GS mark signifies that the product has passed testing for safety by a reputable independent entity. Although not legally mandatory, the GS mark does subject manufacturers to stringent German (European) product safety laws in the event of a malfunction causing an accident. Therefore, the GS mark is a powerful marketing tool that can boost customer confidence and purchasing intent. While the GS standard is German, it is recognized by the majority of European countries. Moreover, products that meet the GS certification also comply with the EU's CE mark requirements. Unlike the CE mark, the GS mark is not legally required, but due to the deep-seated safety awareness among consumers, appliances with the GS mark may have greater market competitiveness than those without.
Eligible products for GS certification application:
Home appliances, such as refrigerators, washing machines, kitchenware, etc.
Home Appliances.
Sports equipment.
Household electronic devices, such as audio-visual equipment.
Electrical and electronic office equipment, such as copiers, fax machines, shredders, computers, printers, and more.
Industrial machinery, experimental measuring equipment.
Other safety-related products such as bicycles, helmets, ladders, and furniture.
The GS certification is based on the corresponding EN safety standards of the European Union.
The GS certification, which is a low-voltage safety certification (LVD) more stringent than the CE certification, requires factory inspections and annual inspections, whereas the CE-LVD does not.
Who can issue the GS certificate?
(1) German Certification Bodies: Typically, well-known German-based GS certification bodies include TUV RHEINLAND, TUV PRODUCT SERVICES, VDE, etc., which are directly recognized by Germany as GS certification bodies.
