The IATF (International Automotive Task Force) is officially known as the International Automotive Task Force, with the primary goal of developing quality management standards for the automotive industry. It released the first edition of TS16949 in 1999, the second edition in 2002, and the third edition in 2009. The fourth edition of 16949 will no longer be published by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) but will be directly issued by IATF, hence the renaming to IATF16949:2016 Edition.
Steps for Implementing IATF 16949 System:
01Preparation phase
1.1 Leadership decisions, unified thinking
The company's top leadership has made the decision to adopt and certify to IATF 16949 standards, appointing a Management Representative, and authorizing them to lead the IATF 16949 implementation team.
1.2 Establish IATF 16949 Implementation Team
Team members must have technical expertise, quality management knowledge, strong analytical and writing skills, and are typically key personnel from various departments. Auxiliary staff should be assigned to assist with typing and document transmission.
1.3 Develop Work Plan
Should include aspects such as publicity and education, training personnel, system analysis, selection of standard clauses, process expansion, responsibility allocation, document preparation, and system establishment. The plan should clearly define the responsible departments and completion deadlines for each work item.
1.4 Training and Development
Management personnel should understand the origin of the standards, master the main contents and applications, and comprehend the significance of implementing these standards.
b. The IATF 16949 implementation team has a comprehensive understanding of the series of standards, mastering the selection, tailoring, and application methods of the standards.

02System of Units Design
2.1 Establish quality policy, set quality objectives.
2.2 Determine the IATF 16949 clauses to be included in the quality management system.
Select and adapt clauses from IATF 16949 based on product features and customer requirements, and make necessary supplements if needed.
2.3 Company Status Diagnosis.
Align the requirements of our company's current quality system with those of the selected IATF 16949, identify the gaps between them, and subsequently determine the content that needs to be modified.
2.4 Allocation of Quality Responsibility and Resource Allocation.
Adjust the organizational structure as needed.

08Review and Certification
8.1 Submit the quality manual and relevant documents to the certification body.
8.2 The certification body evaluates the company's system documents and makes corrections or supplements for non-compliance areas.
8.3 Preliminary Review: The preliminary review helps employees understand the certification process, reducing mystery and fear, and minimizing risks during the formal certification.
