Description

Shenzhen Zhongnuo Inspection & Technology Co., Ltd. is based in South China and offers explosion-proof technology consulting services, including on-site construction, safety inspections, renovations, project acceptance, and installation. We are well-versed in explosion-proof construction standards, boasting experienced construction teams with extensive project experience. We have served major corporations such as PetroChina, LG, Hanlan Environment, BOE Technology Group, and Sinovac Biotech, and have consistently received positive feedback and trust from our clients!
General Requirements for Explosion-Proof Workshop Design (Shared by Shenzhen ZhongNuo Testing Technology Co., Ltd.)
4.1 Floor, interior walls
Areas producing flammable gases heavier than air, or vapors of flammable or combustible liquids, as well as Class B production areas with dust or fiber explosion hazards, should use non-sparking floors. To prevent sparks, the floor material can be rubber, plastic, rubber mixed with graphite, or asphalt concrete, etc.
Walls in workshops where flammable dust may settle should be plastered or painted to create an easily cleanable (wipes clean) interior surface.
4.2 Office, Break Room
For personnel safety, offices or restrooms should not be located in Class A or B production buildings with explosion hazards. If necessary, such rooms may be situated outside the workshop, separated from the workshop by non-combustible walls with fire resistance of not less than 3.5 hours.
4.3 Electrical Equipment
Electrical equipment in explosion-proof workshops should be selected and installed based on different conditions, using explosion-proof types such as explosion-proof switches, explosion-proof motors, and explosion-proof lighting fixtures, and absolutely avoiding non-explosion-proof types.
4.4 Lightning Protection Facilities
In facilities and workshops prone to explosion, in addition to installing lightning protection devices on the building itself, it is necessary to set up grounded lightning rods around the building as required, ensuring the structure is within the protection range of the entire lightning protection system to prevent accidents caused by lightning strikes.

Basic Knowledge and Requirements for Cable Usage in Explosion-Proof Construction Sites (Shared by Shenzhen ZhongNuo Testing Technology Co., Ltd.)
Installation methods for electrical wiring in explosive gas environments can be categorized into cable wiring and conduit wiring methods.
Note: The installation of inherently safe circuits may not be in accordance with the provisions of this article.
7.1 General Provisions
7.2 Electrical wiring should be installed in areas with lower explosion hazard or at a greater distance from the source of release, avoiding locations prone to mechanical damage, vibration, corrosion, dust accumulation, and those with hazardous temperatures. If avoidance is not possible, preventive measures should be taken.
7.3 The selected low-voltage cables or insulated conductors must have a rated voltage higher than the working voltage of the line and not less than 500V. Insulated conductors must be laid within conduits.
7.4 Prohibition of overhead lines at 10kV and below crossing explosive gas environments; the horizontal distance between overhead lines and explosive gas environments should not be less than 1.1 times the height of the pole.
7.5 Cables and their accessories shall be installed in such a position that, in view of the actual conditions, they are protected against external mechanical damage, corrosion, or chemical influences (such as the effects of solvents), as well as the effects of high temperatures (also see 6.1.2.4.4 for this safety circuit). If such conditions cannot be avoided, protective measures shall be taken during installation, such as using conduits or selecting the cable type (armored cables, shielded wires, seamless aluminum sheathed cables, mineral insulated metal sheathed cables, or semi-rigid sheathed cables, etc., can be used to minimize damage).
7.6 Unsheathed single-core wires should not be used for conductive wiring unless they are installed within a distribution board, enclosure, or conduit system.

Basic Standards for Explosion-Proof Electrical Installation (Shared by Shenzhen Zhongnuo Testing Technology Co., Ltd.)
Explosion-proof electrical installation differs from standard electrical installation due to the increased explosion-proof requirements of its environment. In accordance with industry standards, an explosive environment is defined as one where a mixture of air with gases, vapors, thin mist, or dust is formed under atmospheric conditions, and upon ignition, the flame can spread to all unburned mixtures. An area where a significant or expected presence of explosive gas environments or combustible dust environments requires special preventive measures for the structure, installation, and use of electrical equipment is termed as a hazardous area. Explosion-proof electrical installation refers to a task that meets the requirements for explosion-proof electrical equipment, conditions, and personnel, involving work in explosive environments and hazardous areas, and is highly specialized.

In the design of industrial factory buildings, different production processes have varying requirements for the structures. Production facilities for precision instruments and equipment require constant temperature, humidity, and cleanliness; while certain hot workshops and dusty areas necessitate good ventilation and dust removal systems. For industrial enterprises such as chemical, pharmaceutical, and petrochemical companies, due to the risk of explosion during the production process, the design of the factory buildings must not only meet production process requirements but also carefully consider explosion prevention measures. In the event of an explosion, efforts should be made to minimize the loss of life and property. Here, Shenzhen ZhongNuo Inspection Technology Co., Ltd. shares its views on the design of explosive area buildings and electrical wiring, for reference only.
Basic technical measures for explosion-proof in factory design
(1) For factories (such as factories) with explosive hazards throughout the entire plant area, the overall planning and design should take into account factors like the production processes, product types, production characteristics, and level of danger of hazardous materials within the buildings. After determining the hazard level of the buildings, zoning planning should be carried out. The distance between buildings within the hazardous material production area and surrounding villages, highways, railways, towns, and the factory's living facilities should be calculated based on the hazard level of the buildings and the amount of stored substances, and the maximum value should be selected according to regulations. If the required distances cannot be met due to site limitations, protective barriers must be constructed, such as using protective embankments or reinforced concrete walls. Protective barriers are mandatory for Class A buildings. The layout should be determined based on the actual conditions and local geography to achieve an optimal and reasonable arrangement.
(2) For production and workshop buildings within general industrial zones, it is advisable to locate them in the same area as much as possible. The distance between these buildings and general workshops should meet the safety distance requirements to facilitate unified handling of firewalls and other explosion-proof structural elements.
(3) Workshops with explosive hazards should be located in single-story buildings. If the building is multi-story due to process requirements, they should be situated on the upper floor.
(4) When a local explosion-proof room is provided in general factory buildings or workshops, it should be situated as close to the exterior wall as possible. Use specially designed windows that are easy to open outward, which facilitates pressure relief and fire extinguishing.
(5) Within the factory, workshops with high and low risks should be separated by solid fire-resistant walls (brick or reinforced concrete walls). It is advisable to open doors on the exterior walls to facilitate communication between workshops using corridors or balconies; or create a double-door vestibule on the fire-resistant wall, trying to stagger the doors as much as possible. Use the vestibule to mitigate the force of the explosion shock wave and reduce the impact range of the explosion.
(6) For equipment prone to explosion, it should be placed as close to the exterior wall or windows as possible, or outdoors, to minimize its destructive force.
(7) Production and storage of hazardous materials of different nature should be separated, such as those that must be kept apart from oxygen.
(8) Do not locate the explosive hazard areas in basements or semi-basements due to poor ventilation, which can significantly impact accidents and is不利于 evacuation and rescue efforts.
