The actuating part of the mining electric gate valve is the gate plate, which moves perpendicular to the fluid direction. The gate valve can only be fully open or fully closed and is not suitable for regulating or throttling. The gate plate has two sealing surfaces. In wedge gate valves, the two sealing surfaces form a wedge shape, with the wedge angle varying according to valve parameters, usually 5°. The gate plate in a wedge gate valve can be made into a solid unit known as a rigid gate plate; it can also be designed to have slight deformability to enhance its processability and compensate for any angle discrepancies during the manufacturing process, such gate plates are called elastic gate plates. When the gate valve is closed, the sealing surface can be sealed solely by the pressure of the medium, relying on the medium pressure to force the sealing surface against the valve seat on the opposite side to ensure a tight seal, which is known as self-sealing.
The mine electric gate valve is equipped with forced sealing, meaning that when the valve is closed, external force is used to forcibly press the gate plate against the valve seat to ensure the sealability of the sealing surface.
