Currently, there's no specific water-based experience required to apply for a yacht driver's license. Anyone aged 18 to 60 can apply, with tuition fees ranging around 10,000 to 20,000 yuan. However, just like obtaining a car driver's license, applicants must meet certain physical standards: corrected vision of 4.9 or better, no color blindness or color weakness, good hearing, and no speech or limb impairment. Yacht driver's license training is divided into intensive courses and weekend classes. Typically, the intensive course takes about 13 days, while the weekend class allows you to get your license in just over a month from application. Qualified crew members can operate yachts in both marine and inland waters with a valid license for 5 years.
The training process for a yacht driver's license is similar to obtaining a car driver's license, starting with a theoretical exam followed by practical training. The theoretical training covers basic knowledge such as navigation rules and relevant regulations, yacht navigation, handling, collision avoidance, mechanical propulsion systems, safety knowledge, and survival skills on water. The practical training includes starting and stopping mechanical propulsion systems, docking and undocking, approaching and securing buoys, anchoring operations, navigation (acceleration, turning, high-speed directional navigation), navigating around buoys (5 buoys), rescuing people in the water, basic first aid, the use of lifesaving and firefighting equipment, and common knot tying techniques. If you already hold a crew qualification certificate, you can skip the theoretical exam and directly participate in the practical training for yacht operation.
