Continuous Sand Filter

Filter Pond

Model and Material
The continuous sand filter can be installed independently or as a filtration component within a cement pond.
When installed independently, it consists of a filter tank and internal components. The internal components include water supply pipes, water distributors, air-lifting pumps, and sand washing equipment.
The filtration pool is connected to the incoming water, filtrate, and cleaning water via flanges. Standard construction-grade stainless steel or fiberglass is used; other options are available upon request.
Filtering equipment can operate as a single unit or in parallel with multiple units, thus meeting the filtration requirements.
High-power continuous sand filter equipment typically consists of filter components and is constructed in concrete pools. The filter components are composed of stainless steel or fiberglass conical bottoms and internal structures. The economic feasibility of using a concrete pool versus an independent filter system depends on the actual filtration plan and specific conditions.
This type of filter utilizes a single sand bed for all filter units (each unit consists of multiple filter components). Essentially, the equipment has no limitation on filtering area, allowing continuous sand filter systems to be employed in large water treatment plants and sewage treatment facilities that serve populations equivalent to 100,000 or more.
Continuous sand filter is available in various models, sizes, and materials.

Continuous Sand Filter is versatile and convenient, suitable for a variety of needs.
Process Flow and Applications
Continuous sand filter is used to address issues in drinking water treatment, industrial water supply, water recycling, and pre-treatment before waste water discharge. It caters to a user base including utilities, pulp and paper industry, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, mining, food, power generation, incineration, metal surface finishing, electroplating, and other industries that use and treat water.
Continuous Contact Filtration Method
Continuous contact filtration is used to convert river and lake water into industrial water or drinking water, and is also used in wastewater treatment: flocculating chemicals are added to the feed of the continuous sand filter, where the front part of the filter bed serves as a reaction medium, providing favorable conditions for the rapid formation of flocs without the need for a flocculation pond. Moreover, due to the continuous sand filter's ability to handle high concentrations of suspended solids, there is no need for preliminary sedimentation of the wastewater.
The recycling of process water reduces water consumption and makes comprehensive water quality control possible. Used process water, after screening and preliminary sedimentation treatment, is pumped into a continuous sand filter, where the filtered water is reused. The water used for washing sand is flocculated and thickened, and the overflow from the concentration unit is returned to the filter.
The three-stage filtration method is used for pre-treatment before wastewater discharge. Contact filtration can be employed if necessary, utilizing aluminum or iron salts as flocculants to precipitate phosphorus and enhance the removal of suspended solids.
The treatment results can meet the high environmental protection standards of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment.
The filtration process is often combined with biological denitrification, where nitrates are converted to nitrogen gas by the active bacterial layer on the filtration particles.
Treating industrial wastewater containing metals, including metal ion precipitation and flocculation, followed by sedimentation and filtration in a continuous flow sand filter. This process results in low metal residue.
The filtering medium is common graded quartz sand, while biological active filters use special materials. Activated carbon filters are a special form using activated carbon as the medium.
