Anodizing of aluminum refers to an electrolytic oxidation process where the surface of aluminum and its alloys is typically converted into an oxide layer. This oxide layer provides protective, decorative, and some other functional characteristics. Anodizing of aluminum, as defined from this perspective, includes only the process of forming the anodized oxide layer.

Manufacturing articles from metal or alloys as an anode, electrolysing them to form an oxide film on the surface. The metal oxide film alters the surface state and properties, such as surface coloring, hard anodic oxidation, enhancing corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and hardness, and protecting the metal surface.

Extruded aluminum alloy profiles, with poor surface corrosion resistance, require anodizing treatment to enhance their corrosion and wear resistance, as well as aesthetic appearance.

Surface Treatment for Aluminum Profiles

The primary process involves:

(1) Surface Pretreatment: Clean the profile surface chemically or physically to expose a pure substrate, followed by Yangzhou anodizing to facilitate the formation of a complete and dense artificial oxide layer. Additionally, a mirror or matte (dull) surface can be achieved through mechanical means.

Anodizing and dyeing process for aluminum materials

Anodized aluminum products are aesthetically pleasing, vibrant, and have superior corrosion and wear resistance, as well as better insulation than regular aluminum products. The aluminum workpiece is suspended in an appropriate electrolyte solution, serving as the anode for electrolysis. During the electrolysis process, hydroxide ions in the water release electrons at the anode, forming water and new oxygen. This process oxidizes the aluminum into a thicker aluminum oxide film. Since this oxidation occurs when the metal product is the anode, it is called anodizing. After anodizing, the aluminum products are dyed, sealed, and treated to become anodized finishes.
