Corrugated boxes and single-layer cardboard boxes are widely used packaging products, available in various sizes and models, differing in materials used.
Corrugated boxes are commonly available in 3, 5, and less frequently, 7 layers. The layers consist of inner paper, corrugated paper, fluting paper, and outer paper. The inner and outer papers can be kraft paper or kraft paper, the fluting paper is used for the core, and the colors and textures of various papers differ. The paper produced by different manufacturers also varies in color and texture.
Corrugated cardboard is made by bonding together face paper, back paper, fluting paper, and corrugated paper processed into wave shapes. According to the requirements of product packaging, corrugated cardboard can be processed into single-faced, three-layer, five-layer, seven-layer, eleven-layer, and other types of corrugated cardboard.
Corrugated boards made from different wave shapes have varying functionalities. Even with the same quality of face and back papers, the performance of the corrugated board can differ due to the differences in wave shape. The internationally recognized corrugated wave shapes are divided into four types: A-wave, C-wave, B-wave, and E-wave. Their technical specifications and requirements are listed in Table 1. A-wave corrugated boards offer good cushioning and elasticity; C-wave is slightly less than A-wave. However, they have better rigidity and shock resistance than A-wave; B-wave has a higher density, resulting in a flat surface and high bearing capacity, suitable for printing; E-wave, being thin and dense, exhibits greater stiffness and strength.
