Corrugated boxes and single-layer cardboard boxes are widely used packaging materials, available in various sizes and models.
Corrugated boxes are commonly available in 3-ply, 5-ply, with 7-ply used less frequently. The layers include inner paper, corrugated paper, core paper, and surface paper. The inner and surface papers can be kraft paper or brown paper, the core paper is made of corrugated paper, and the colors and textures of the various papers differ. Additionally, the color and texture of paper produced by different manufacturers also vary.
Corrugated cardboard is made by bonding together face paper, back paper, fluting paper, and corrugated paper that has been processed into a wavy fluting. According to the requirements of product packaging, corrugated cardboard can be processed into single-faced, three-layer, five-layer, seven-layer, eleven-layer, and other types of corrugated cardboard.
Corrugated boards made from different wave shapes exhibit varying functionalities. Even with the same quality of face and back papers, the performance of the corrugated board can differ due to the variation in wave shapes. Internationally, four standard wave shapes are commonly used, which are Type A, Type C, Type B, and Type E corrugations. Their technical specifications and requirements are listed in Table 1. Type A corrugated boards offer good cushioning and elasticity, with Type C being slightly less than Type A. However, they have better rigidity and shock resistance than Type A. Type B corrugations have a higher density, resulting in a flat surface on the board, high bearing capacity, and are suitable for printing. Type E corrugations, being thin and dense, exhibit greater stiffness and strength.
