Sodium CarbonateSodium carbonate, commonly known as soda ash, soda lime, and alkali powder, is a white powder and fine-grained crystalline substance. Its aqueous solution is alkaline, and it has a strong hygroscopic property, readily absorbing moisture in humid air. Sodium carbonate is categorized into industrial-grade and food-grade, and can be further divided into light and heavy grades based on bulk density. There are also byproduct alkalis, floor alkalis, and common alkalis, etc.
Usage
Industrial Grade:
Glass production is a major industrial consumer of soda ash, widely used in float glass, picture tube glass shells, optical glass, etc. It can also act as a clarifier to remove bubbles from the glass melt.
②High-purity soda ash can reduce the scattering of alkali dust, decrease raw material consumption, save costs, and also mitigate the erosion of alkali powder on refractory materials, extending the lifespan of kilns.
③ Sodium carbonate solutions, due to hydrolysis, are alkaline and can undergo saponification with oil污, making them suitable for use in detergent production.
④ Used in leather processing for degreasing raw hides and neutralizing chrome-tanned leather to increase the viscosity of the chrome tanning solution.
Soda ash is used in the papermaking industry as a buffering agent to leach lignin, allowing cellulose to disperse into pulp.
Food-grade:
Food-grade soda ash can be used as a buffer, neutralizer, and dough conditioner for bakery and pasta products.
② Lye water, also known as alkali water, is a compounded food additive traditionally used as a component in Cantonese-style pastries.
