The recent cold weather has led to an increase in repair calls for air conditioners with poor heating performance. Today, we encountered an air conditioning fault we've never seen before.
Customer reported that the air conditioner's heating function was not working and asked for a check. Arrived at the customer's house with the tools for repairing air conditioners. Turns out it was a Gree fixed-frequency air conditioner that had been working fine before. It had been moved during the summer and was doing well, but now, in winter, it wouldn't heat up at all. Turned on the heating function, but there was no response. After looking at the outdoor unit's wiring area for a while, I couldn't figure it out. The air conditioner only had N and compressor connection terminals; there were no terminals for the fan or four-way valve. Upon closely examining the label on the air conditioner, I confirmed it was a dual-purpose air conditioner with both heating and cooling. How could there be no terminals for the four-way valve? Inside the unit, there was no connection line for the four-way valve. The outdoor unit did have a four-way valve, with the fan wire directly connected to the compressor capacitor. After a thorough discussion with the customer, I learned that it was likely that a previous repairperson had disconnected the wires. I then re-wired two lines from the indoor and outdoor units to connect to the four-way valve and fan and turned it on, and the air conditioner started blowing out hot air immediately.
