The solubility of tellurium in copper is not more than 0.01% at 800°C, and tellurium has little effect on the electrical and thermal conductivity of copper. Tellurium exists in copper as a dispersed independent phase Cu2Te, making chips easy to break and improving the copper's machinability. To reduce the brittleness of tin copper, the Te content should not exceed 0.7% and should be used in quenched and tempered conditions. Do not anneal, as annealing (around 600°C) causes Cu2Te to precipitate along grain boundaries, making the material brittle. Tellurium worsens the copper's weldability.
