Spray Tower, also known as a Mist Tower. It contains no packing or trays inside, but is equipped with spray nozzles in an absorption tower. The liquid enters from the top of the tower and is sprayed into a mist or raindrop-like state through the nozzles; the gas enters from the bottom and comes into close contact with the mist or raindrop-like liquid for mass transfer, absorbing the easily soluble components in the gas. The structure is simple, not prone to clogging, with low resistance and easy operation and maintenance.

Spray towers (flooded towers) are simple devices used for gas absorption. Inside the tower, the liquid is the dispersed phase, and the gas is the continuous phase. Generally, the gas-liquid ratio is low, suitable for absorption processes involving extremely fast or rapid chemical reactions.

The advantages of the spray tower include its simple structure, low cost, minimal gas pressure drop, and non-clogging properties. It is currently widely used in wet scrubbing systems. Its main feature is its complete openness. Apart from the spray nozzles, there are no other internal components. The nozzles are the main accessories of the spray tower and must provide fine and uniformly sized droplets to ensure the tower operates effectively.


The effective mass transfer area is only formed when the packing surface area is wetted by the flowing liquid phase. To achieve a higher transfer rate, in addition to a large specific surface area, the packing must also have good wetting properties and a shape that promotes even gas-liquid distribution.
