A fuel cell is an energy conversion device that, according to electrochemical principles, specifically the working principle of a galvanic cell, directly converts the chemical energy stored in fuel and oxidizer into electrical energy at an isothermal condition. Consequently, the actual process involves oxidation-reduction reactions. A fuel cell is primarily composed of four parts: the anode, cathode, electrolyte, and external circuit. The fuel gas and oxidant gas are introduced into the anode and cathode of the fuel cell, respectively. The fuel gas releases electrons at the anode, which are then conducted through the external circuit to the cathode, where they combine with the oxidant gas to form ions. Under the influence of the electric field, the ions migrate through the electrolyte to the anode, react with the fuel gas, and complete the circuit, generating electricity. Additionally, due to its electrochemical reactions and internal resistance, a fuel cell also produces a certain amount of heat.
