Assembly robots are industrial robots designed for assembly tasks. They are one of the products with a wide range of applications among industrial robot types.

Assembly robots are equipment for flexible automated assembly systems, comprising robot manipulators, controllers, end-effectors, and sensor systems. The manipulators come in various structural types such as horizontal articulated, right-angle coordinate, multi-jointed, and cylindrical coordinate; the controllers typically employ multi-CPU or multi-level computer systems to achieve motion control and programming; end-effectors are designed into various grippers and wrists to accommodate different assembly objects; the sensor system then gathers information about the interactions between the assembly robot, the environment, and the assembly objects. Multiple policies support the parts industry

To break through the dependency on foreign imports of parts and components, China's policies are gradually intensifying efforts to promote the development of the robot parts industry. Two months ago, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), and others jointly issued the "Notice on Promoting the Healthy Development of the Robot Industry." The notice addresses issues such as low-level repetitive construction in the industry and lightweight key parts manufacturing. It proposes to promote the rational development of the robot industry, strengthen breakthroughs in key areas like parts, and vigorously cultivate [the industry]. The MIIT also released the "Standard Conditions for the Industrial Robot Industry," which stipulates that manufacturers of industrial robot bodies must have an annual revenue of not less than 50 million yuan or an annual output of not less than 2,000 sets, and integrated application enterprises must have an annual total income of not less than 100 million yuan.

Industrial Robot

George Devol applied for the first robot in 1954 (awarded in 1961). The company that manufactured the robot was Unimation, founded by Joseph F. Engelberger in 1956, and it was based on Devol's original. Unimation robots were also known as programmable transfer machines, as their primary initial use was to transport objects from one point to another, about ten feet apart. They used hydraulic actuators and encoded joint coordinates, meaning the angles of each joint during the teaching and playback operations were stored.
