Reversed Flow Closed Circuit Cooling Tower

I. Overview

Counter-current closed cooling tower, named due to the opposite direction of the cold and hot media, spray water flows from top to bottom, while air moves rapidly upwards from below.

Mainly composed of heat exchanger coils, spray water system, exhaust system, and framework housing.

II. Process Workflow

The spray pump draws water from the sump, pumps it to the upper part of the heat exchange coil, where it is sprayed in an umbrella-like pattern, continuously and evenly covering the outer surface of the pipe material, forming a thin water film. Part of this water absorbs the heat from the cooled medium inside the pipe, turning from liquid to vapor, which evaporates and carries away the heat. The cooled medium inside the pipe is either cooled down or condensed back into a liquid state. The water that does not evaporate falls back into the spray water sump.

Exhaust System: The top fan of the tower is an intake type, drawing air from inside the tower and expelling it outside. The cold, dry air outside the tower passes through a filter grille to enter the tower. It flows upwards from the bottom of the heat exchanger coils, carrying away the evaporated water vapor, increasing the humidity and temperature of the air, which is then expelled outside by the fan.

In the spray trough, a float valve is installed. When the water level is low, it automatically replenishes the supply to maintain a consistent water level in the trough.

Electrical control systems monitor the outlet temperature of the cooled medium online and feed it back to the data processing center. Based on the temperature of the cooling medium, the system automatically controls the spray pump and air, as well as starts and stops them, to achieve energy-saving objectives.

Section 3: Reverse Flow Closed Circuit Cooling Tower Operating Principle

1. Internal Recirculation: After the circulating water is heated by the heat source equipment and increases in temperature, it enters the surface cooler. It undergoes inter-wall heat exchange through the cooler, and the cooled circulating water is then pumped back to the heat source equipment.

2. External circulation: Sprinkler water is delivered to the sprinkler system from the trough, where it sprays out and contacts the surface cooler for evaporation and heat exchange. The humid steam is exhausted through a fan, and the non-vaporized sprinkler water falls back into the trough. It is then pumped back into the sprinkler system by a pump for another cycle.

Application Range: Due to its compact tower design, it is suitable for placement in workshops, making it particularly well-suited for medium-frequency power supply cooling and mechanical water jacket cooling. It is especially suitable for projects with smaller temperature differences, such as the cooling of a group of water source heat pump units.
