Nowadays, as the drawbacks of wired routers become more apparent, the demand for wireless routers is gradually expanding. It can be said that our society is covered by Wi-Fi, with wireless networks available everywhere, and wireless router products are not hard to find. However, exporting such wireless products to the EU requires obtaining the CE-RED certification.
What is RED certification?
Starting from the publication and enforcement of the new directive by the EU, there is a two-year transition period. From June 13, 2016, the original R&TTE Directive 1999/5/EC will be repealed, and products already assessed under the old directive can continue to be sold until June 13, 2017. After June 13, 2017, only wireless devices assessed under the new RED 2014/53/EU will be allowed to be sold in the EU market. The purpose of the new directive is to clarify the spectrum usage range, enhance the effectiveness of spectrum use, and facilitate the enforcement of regulations and market surveillance between member states.
Why do wireless routers need to obtain RED certification?
RED certification is one of the mandatory CE certification models in the European Union for wireless product certifications. Products with wireless transmission frequencies, such as wireless doorbells, Bluetooth devices, wireless routers, WiFi equipment, wireless alarm systems, radio receiving and transmitting devices, telephones, computers, and more, all require RED certification.
Wired products must undergo testing and obtain approval in accordance with the RED Directive prior to being legally sold in EU countries, and they must also have the CE mark. Wireless products must comply with the RED Directive requirements, specifically RED 2014/53/EU.

Wireless Router CE-RED Certification Fee
CE certification costs primarily depend on the product being certified, the chosen certification body, and the relevant product directives.
Different products have distinct test items. Common products like routers fall under electronic and electrical categories, with common test categories including EMC, LVD directives, and RED directives.
1. Firstly, it's the product itself; different products require different certification directives, hence the prices will vary accordingly.
a. Standard executed by the product
b. Product Functions and Modes
c. Product Technical Specifications
2. The purpose of CE, whether for export customs clearance or domestic use. Depending on the purpose, different types of CE can be chosen.
3. Different CE certification bodies can lead to price variations; the scale and authority of the certification body also affect the cost of CE certification, with more authoritative enterprises typically incurring higher certification fees.
Wireless Router RED Test Items
1. Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing (EMC Testing)
2. Safety Regulations Testing LVD (In the new directive, RF products with battery inputs are also required to undergo this test)
3. Radio communication equipment testing (RF testing) conducted according to the European ETSI standards.
4. Spectrum Information Notification permitted in Europe
5. CTR (TBR) Test
6. Electrical Safety and Health Protection Testing (SAR Evaluation)
