Historical Clay Tile Façade
The clay panel facade originated in Germany. Engineer Professor Thomas Herzog envisioned applying roof tiles to walls in the 1980s, invented the dry-hanging system for exterior walls and facade clay panels based on the hanging method of clay tiles, and founded a factory specializing in clay panel production. The clay panel project was completed in Munich, Germany in 1985. Over the following years, the hanging method of clay panels was gradually refined, evolving from the initial wooden structure to two major facade systems (with and without transverse ribs).
China's ceramic tile market supply has long been entirely reliant on imports from overseas, at the cost of high transportation expenses, extended supply cycles, and the difficulty in providing timely installation services, which has hindered the promotion and use of ceramic tiles in China.
Since 2006, Chinese manufacturers have started to independently research and produce ceramic tiles. The domestic ceramic tile production sector was almost blank before, and Chinese ceramic tile producers can now supply mature products to the market.
As of the end of 2011, there were already 30 production lines domestically, with an annual output reaching 30 to 50 million square meters. Both production capacity and R&D investment have gained increasing importance.
