Electric fused sand, also known as pearl sand, casting sand, and bauxite sand. Electric fused sand is produced from bauxite through processes such as calcination, electric fusion, granulation, and screening. Pearl sand is a substitute for quartz sand, overcoming the drawbacks of quartz sand, such as high expansion coefficient, low casting precision, and severe sand adhering to the casting, thereby improving the quality of the castings.

Manufacture
Bead sand is a non-quartz artificial sand suitable for various casting methods; such as: V-method, VRH, lost foam, investment casting, general sand molds (clay sand, water glass + CO2 curing), resin sand, etc.
Electric fusion ballast sand requires a specialized piece of equipment, the electric arc furnace (EAF), which is an electric furnace that melts ore and metal at high temperatures using an electrode arc. Electric arc furnaces can be categorized by the form of the arc, including three-phase electric arc furnaces, consumable electric arc furnaces, single-phase electric arc furnaces, and resistance electric arc furnaces, among others.
Application
Bead sand is widely used in resin sand (furfural resin, phenolic resin), water glass sand (organic fatty acid, CO2 curing), and film-coated sand. It is suitable for various metal castings, such as carbon steel, alloy steel (high manganese steel, high-chromium cast iron), cast iron, and cast copper. It is applicable for the production of castings made from various binders and metal materials, not only significantly improving casting quality but also making sand removal easy and the sand mixing process simple and convenient (for large-scale steel foundries, single pieces in small batches and local sand usage, manual mixing with minimal sand is sufficient), which can eliminate the need for coatings on most castings, especially for those requiring high quality.
Features Introduction
Electro-fused ballast sand (pearl sand) features:
1. Spherical granules, with shapes nearly true circles, featuring a smooth surface and no undulations or veins. They offer excellent fluidity and filling properties, resulting in good molding and casting strength. They are easily broken down, making sand cleaning operations straightforward. The binder usage is significantly reduced compared to other similar sands.
2. Low coefficient of thermal expansion, similar to that of special sand like chromite sand, hence, the castings produced have high dimensional accuracy, fewer cracks and surface defects, resulting in a high yield of finished castings.
3. Excellent resistance to fracturing; dense casting sand with high strength, rarely breaks down after repeated use; reduces dust pollution in the casting production process, good recyclability, less industrial waste discharge, beneficial to environmental protection.
4. Excellent refractoriness, primarily composed of alumina, ensuring excellent refractory properties. Refractoriness ≥ 1790℃ meets the casting requirements for various metals and alloys.
