Lotus (scientific name: Nymphaea tetragona): The lotus is a perennial aquatic herb with floating leaves, having a thick rhizome that is either upright or creeping. The leaves are biconvex, with floating leaves floating on the water surface, shaped as round, elliptic, or ovate, with bluntly rounded tips and deeply lobed bases into horseshoe or heart shapes; the leaf margin is wavy and entire or toothed; submerged leaves are thin and delicate. Flowers are solitary, with variations in size and color, blooming either on the surface or above the water; there are 4 sepals, and many petals and stamens. The fruit is a berry with a silky texture, ripening in water and cracking irregularly; the seeds are hard, dark green or black-brown, encased in a gelatinous coat, with a pseudocarp. Different varieties exhibit varying morphological characteristics.
