Polyurea coatings have a wide range of applications, including waterproofing projects for roofs, basements, and special industrial waterproofing projects. They can also be used in locations with high specifications for waterproofing, such as subways, tunnels, and reservoirs. In recent years, an increasing number of industrial buildings and chemical equipment storage environments have also adopted this type of coating due to its excellent waterproofing, self-healing, and crack resistance properties. As long as the construction conditions are met during application, the construction effect can be guaranteed. Below, we introduce the condition limitations for the stable polyurea coatings.
Temperature restrictions (especially during winter construction)
Ensure that polyurea coatings are applied within the normal temperature range. Avoid application below freezing temperatures, as it can significantly diminish the coating's effectiveness and severely compromise its waterproofing performance. Additionally, it's not advisable to apply coatings during extreme heat, such as during the summer solstice, as high temperatures can damage the active ingredients. Since the overall raw material composition of different spray curing coatings varies, the specific application temperature should be determined based on the actual conditions.
2. Weather (No construction in winds of level 4 or above)
Generally, polyurea coatings should be applied under conditions with no strong winds or heavy snow. It is not advisable to apply them in winds above grade 4, and excessive ground moisture can also pose obstacles to the application process. However, some high-grade polyurea coatings from certain brands have strong functional properties and can be applied even on damp surfaces. Regardless of the type of fast-setting spray coating, it is crucial to ensure there is no standing water on the ground, as this can affect adhesion.
3. Steer clear (accessible only after hard work)
After polyurea coating application, several hours are required for the surface to dry. Generally, the drying time lasts for a few hours. In environments with low temperatures, high humidity, or poor ventilation, the drying time will be correspondingly extended. Conversely, the drying time will be shortened. Typically, it is safe to touch and walk on the polyurea coating only after it has fully dried, as frequent foot traffic in the short term can affect the waterproofing effectiveness.
Above are the relevant precautions for the application of polyurea coatings. Additionally, before application, it is essential to confirm the color of the paint, ensuring there are no abnormalities before use. This prevents the need for rework due to significant color discrepancies. When dealing with large application areas or high specifications, it is crucial to strictly refer to the application environment for mixing proportions.
