Natural Stone Classification and Characteristics of Stone Products

Natural stone varieties are derived from the factors of their formation, with the most common classification dividing stones into four main categories: sandstone, slate, marble, and granite.

Sandstone:

Sandstone, actually a sedimentary rock, has a coarse and loose texture, which may become loose and deformed when wet. However, due to its unique concave rough texture that closely resembles the rugged and natural feel of the mountains, it is commonly used in wall decoration.

2. Slate

Slate is a metamorphic rock with a tabular structure, characterized by minimal recrystallization. It primarily consists of argillaceous, sandy, or neutral tuff. It can be split into thin sheets along the bedding plane. The color of slate varies depending on the impurities it contains; iron-rich slates are red or yellow, carbonaceous slates are black or gray, and calcareous slates fizz when treated with hydrochloric acid. Therefore, they are generally named and categorized by color, such as green slate, black slate, calcareous slate, and so on.
