Marking paint for traffic lines is available in solvent-based and hot melt types. Hot melt road marking paint is typically applied using equipment. The solvent-based road marking paint can be applied manually, mechanically, or a combination of both. In actual construction, cold spray or hot spray methods are commonly used.

Road marking coatings for pavement can be divided into four categories: room temperature solvent-based, heated solvent-based, hot melt, and two-component types.

1. Room temperature solvent-based products can be used for construction under normal temperature conditions, with relatively lenient environmental requirements and a wide range of applications. Room temperature paints include varieties such as ester resin, epoxy, and chlorinated rubber. The drying time for paints and chlorinated rubber is fast, epoxy paints offer good adhesion and durability, while ester resin paints are limited in usage due to poor properties.

2. Heat-set solvent-based paints have a lower heating temperature, forming a film through solvent evaporation and the oxidation polymerization of resins in the air. They dry quickly, with a thick coating.

3. Solvent-free thermoplastic coatings require high temperatures for the powdered material to melt during application. The melted coating is then applied to the road using equipment, forming a line that solidifies quickly, is strong, and has excellent reflectivity. Suitable for use in parking garages, busy city thoroughfares, and highways.

4. In two-component line marking coatings, PMMA-based resins are predominant.

The solvent-based paint at room temperature is composed of a film of synthetic resin (15%~20%) and binds various other raw material components. Including: pigments (15%~20%) mainly for coloring and covering; body pigments (15%~38%) as filling agents, to increase mechanical strength and wear resistance; additives (2%~5%) for quick drying, preventing sedimentation, scaling, easy dispersion, and increasing stability; solvents (30%~40%) provide the paint with fluidity and adjust the viscosity.
