If the piston rod of a hydraulic cylinder is damaged and not addressed promptly, it can either slightly affect normal operation or, in severe cases, render the hydraulic cylinder inoperable. Our repair approach involves local sanding and polishing for minor scratches; for more severe damage, we employ welding followed by manual sanding for repair.
The Formation of Scratches: During the disassembly of the crane, it was found that a cylinder piston rod had been severely stretched, with six parallel scratches. The primary cause of the rod's stretching was the hardening and subsequent detachment of the dust seal, which not only lost its dust-proofing function but also accumulated a significant amount of dust and debris at the site. This led to the rod being directly abraded by the impurities, causing the stretching. The scratches then damaged the cylinder mouth rubber sealing component, resulting in severe hydraulic cylinder leakage.
Filler requirements: The filler must bond firmly and smoothly with the base material; the material must be durable and easy to work with by hand; hand processing must ensure the piston rod diameter tolerance is less than 0.06mm. After analysis, it was decided to use the J422 welding rod as the filler. This is because the acidic welding rod is insensitive to rust, oil污, and moisture, thus it is unlikely to produce hydrogen pores; it has good workability, is easy to handle; the weld bead is aesthetically pleasing; the material has moderate hardness, easy to process by hand; the arc is stable with deep penetration, firmly bonding with the base material.
