Belt drive transmission has lower precision than gear mesh transmission, but during overload, belt slippage acts as an overload protection mechanism. Belt drive mechanisms offer smooth operation, low noise, simple structure, and easy maintenance. Therefore, belt drive mechanisms are widely used in mechanical transmission. However, due to the tendency to generate static discharge after friction, they are not suitable for environments prone to combustion or explosion.
The hazardous parts of the belt drive mechanism are the belt joint and where the belt enters the belt wheel, so they must be protected.
The distance between the belt guard and the belt must not be less than 50mm; the design should be reasonable and not affect the machine's operation. Generally, if the transmission mechanism is below 2 meters from the ground, a guard should be installed. However, in the following three cases, protection should be provided even if it is above 2 meters: the distance between belt pulleys is over 3 meters, the belt width is over 15cm, and the belt's rotational speed is over 9m/min. This way, in the event of a belt breakage, it won't fall and injure anyone.
The belt joints must be sturdy and reliable. When installing the belt, ensure it is properly tensioned. Protection for the belt drive mechanism can be achieved by either fully covering the belt or using guardrails.
