The hardness of rosewood is well-known, and in the wood drying industry, it is a difficult-to-dry broadleaf species. The moisture migration in rosewood is very slow, with poor water channels within the wood, leading to significant differences in moisture content between the surface and the slightly lower inner layers. Multiple intermediate treatments are required to alleviate the moisture gradient and release substantial internal stresses, overcoming the drying defects in rosewood. Therefore, the drying process should employ a combination of hot air and steam. This is due to the fact that both methods use hot, moist air as the drying medium, making it easy to adjust temperature and humidity, and to utilize steam or water spray for convenient intermediate and final treatments.
