One: Common Faults and Causes of Heat Exchangers

The primary issue with water radiators is leakage. The main causes of leakage include: fan blades breaking or tilting during operation, damaging the fins; the radiator not being securely fastened, causing the diesel engine to crack the radiator joints while running; excessive impurities and salt in the coolant, severely corroding the tube walls and leading to damage, etc.

Inspection after Radiator Damage

When a radiator leaks, clean the external surface of the radiator and perform a leak check. During the inspection, leave one inlet or outlet open and seal the rest of the openings. Place the radiator in water and use an air pump or high-pressure air cylinder to inject approximately 0.5 kg/cm² of compressed air through the open inlet or outlet. If bubbles appear, it indicates a crack or damage at that location.

Thermal Radiator Repair

1. Repair of the radiator's upper and lower chambers

Before repair, clean the leaking area thoroughly, then use a metal brush or scraper to remove the metal paint and rust completely, followed by soldering for repair. If there is a significant leakage in the upper and lower water chamber screw areas, disassemble the upper and lower water chambers and make two new water chambers of the appropriate size. Before assembly, apply an adhesive or sealant to the top and bottom of the sealing gasket, then secure it with screws.

2. Radiator Water Pipe Repair

If the outer water pipes of the radiator are slightly damaged, they can generally be repaired using soldering. For larger damage, use needle-nose pliers to clamp the pipe ends on both sides of the damaged section to prevent leaks. However, avoid clamping too many pipes, as it may affect the radiator's cooling efficiency. If the internal water pipes of the radiator are damaged, remove the upper and lower chambers, and replace or solder a补水管 (resupply pipe). After assembly, recheck for leaks in the radiator.
