Analysis of Causes for Diesel Generator Failures Due to Summer High Temperatures

As summer temperatures rise, diesel generators can experience overheating and associated malfunctions. The causes of high temperatures in diesel generators are multifaceted, including natural factors, operational issues, and maintenance-related aspects. Excessive heat can significantly shorten the lifespan of the generator. Therefore, it is crucial to analyze and resolve the causes of high-temperature failures in the generator set.

It's widely known that internal combustion engines rely on the rapid combustion of fuel within the combustion chamber to convert the chemical energy of the fuel into energy. This energy causes gases to expand and explode instantaneously, pushing the piston and generating the mechanical energy required for motion. This combustion process is crucial, as it transforms chemical energy into mechanical energy. However, the energy produced by this combustion is not fully utilized, with a significant amount of unused energy accumulating within the engine, posing a major obstacle to its continuous operation. This unused energy leads to overheating of the machinery, alters structural mechanisms, and can even damage the operating environment or lead to the disintegration and scrapping of the engine. To address this, engineers have designed systems to extract this excess energy, which is the cooling and heat dissipation system of diesel generators.

Drought leads to soaring temperatures.

Long-term, slight leaks or overflow evaporation are typically not noticeable to users, but over time, they can accumulate to trigger a low-water alarm or even cause a shutdown due to high temperatures. This situation is quite common, so when dealing with high-temperature issues in diesel generators, the standard approach is to check the coolant level and address the problem by topping up the coolant.

(2) Overloading leads to high temperatures.

Under prolonged, high-load, and continuous high-speed operation, an unexpected overheat in the diesel generator occurred. Generally, diagnosing such a fault is quite straightforward; even someone without repair knowledge would likely think, "It must be tired out, let the machine take a break." After a brief shutdown, the fault usually resolves itself naturally.
