With the deterioration of the atmospheric environment, the increase in acidic components in rainwater also has a significant impact on outdoor equipment such as crane booms at ports. Therefore, anti-corrosion is a key point in the maintenance of crane booms. The following are main points to note for anti-corrosion of crane booms:
(1) For metal structures with damaged paint coatings, some components require the exterior surface to be cleaned and sanitized. Apply rust-inhibiting paint and decorative coatings to prevent rust on the metal surface after rain or snowfall.
(2) Pay close attention to anti-rust procedures at the connection points between the crane rope and the pier crane pivot, as well as at all guide wheels, trolley wheels, and other areas. After shutdown, first clean these parts with a brush to remove any contaminants, moisture, and rust spots that could cause corrosion. Then apply -10 or -20 diesel oil to these areas, as it has better penetration than engine oil and can seep into loaded joints, forming an oil film on the metal surface. Additionally, due to its low freezing point, it can withstand low temperatures.
(3) After cleaning with diesel and applying lubricant, coat with a layer of grease. Calcium or lithium-based greases are good choices due to their mechanical stability, adhesion, and water resistance. Their freezing point can reach -20 degrees. When applying the grease, do not apply it too thickly.
Users of dock cranes should be reminded that merely relying on these maintenance items is not sufficient. A comprehensive maintenance operation standard must be established and carried out regularly to effectively extend the lifespan of the equipment and improve the safety factor during operation.
