How Many Infrared Temperature Measurement Windows Do You Know?

    2024-05-09

Today, let's explore the classifications of infrared body temperature measurement devices, their respective advantages and disadvantages. What technical requirements should be considered when purchasing infrared body temperature measurement devices? What should schools pay attention to during installation and use?

Category of Infrared Body Temperature Measurement Devices

Infrared body temperature measurement devices, also known as rapid infrared body surface temperature screening instruments, utilize infrared temperature sensing technology to measure surface body temperatures non-invasively. They issue an alert when the measured temperature reaches or exceeds a preset warning threshold. These devices are categorized into three types: thermal imaging, point temperature, and multi-point.

    Thermal Imaging Inspection Device

Thermographic inspection devices, hereinafter referred to as "thermographic cameras," are instruments that measure and screen temperatures within the field of view using infrared cameras. They provide surface temperature and temperature distribution information of the measured human body part. A thermographic camera primarily consists of an infrared camera, an image processing and display unit (or computer), and can be equipped with an infrared camera mount, a printer, and a trolley as needed. To enhance the accuracy of temperature measurement, some models of thermographic cameras can be fitted with a blackbody device for automatic temperature calibration.

Thermographic cameras can be categorized into online and handheld models. Online thermographic cameras are connected to computers and power sources, allowing for simultaneous detection by multiple users. Styles include vertical, access control, and barrier gate types. Online thermographic cameras can also be equipped with a blackbody to enhance the accuracy of temperature measurement. Handheld thermographic cameras are cost-effective, supporting single-user temperature detection and typically do not include a blackbody.

    Point-temperature Screening Instrument

The Point-Temperature Screening Instrument measures and screens the surface temperature of the human body through a single infrared detector; common types include infrared forehead thermometers and infrared ear thermometers.

Infrared forehead thermometers measure skin temperature by utilizing the infrared radiation exchange between the skin and the detector, with appropriate emissivity corrections. Infrared ear thermometers measure body temperature by detecting the infrared radiation exchange between the ear canal, eardrum, and the detector, offering high precision in temperature measurement.

    Multipoint Screening Device

The multipoint temperature screening device is an instrument that simultaneously measures and screens surface body temperatures using multiple infrared detectors.

Currently, the market is dominated by thermal imaging inspection devices and point temperature inspection devices, each with varying performance and respective strengths and weaknesses, as detailed in the table below.

Technical Requirements for Infrared Body Temperature Measurement Devices

During the pandemic, a variety of infrared body temperature measurement devices have emerged, but their quality varies greatly. To ensure stability and accuracy in temperature measurement, these devices should meet the requirements of the "Infrared Body Surface Temperature Rapid Screening Instrument" (GB/T 19146-2010) and possess a test report covering temperature measurement performance indicators from a qualified third-party assessment at the provincial level or above. Additionally, when schools purchase infrared body temperature measurement devices, they should pay close attention to the following technical requirements.

The screening instrument should have temperature display and status indication functions, and the Chinese interface should be used preferentially. The screening instrument should use the Celsius temperature unit, with a display resolution of 0.1℃ or better.

The thermometer should have a temperature mode and indicate the set display mode.

The temperature display range of the detector should not be less than 30.0℃~42℃ in any display mode.

    4. Laboratory Error: Under the specified working environment conditions, when the blackbody temperature is between 33℃ and 37℃, the laboratory error of the sieve instrument should not exceed 0.4℃. When the blackbody temperature is below 33℃ or above 37℃ under the specified working environment conditions, the laboratory error of the sieve instrument should not exceed 0.6℃.

The alarm response time of the inspection instrument should not exceed 2 seconds.

Under the following environmental conditions, the screener should operate normally, and its laboratory error should comply with Article 8: Environmental temperature: 16℃ to 32℃; Relative humidity: no less than 85% at the maximum.

Additionally, the thermal imaging inspection device should meet the following requirements:

The sieve instrument, featuring a focusing function, can adjust the image to clear for objects within the temperature measurement distance.

    2. Single-point or multi-point temperature display functionality in thermal images.

    3. Indication and tracking functionality for high-temperature areas in thermal images.

The temperature consistency of thermal imaging screening equipment should not exceed ±0.2℃.

    5. Optional feature to automatically store thermal images when the inspection device emits an alert.

    6. Temperature Field Blocking Function, which allows for certain areas within thermal images to be excluded from temperature measurement (optional).

    Section 3: Cautionary Notes

    Configuration Instructions

Schools should tailor their infrared body temperature measurement equipment configuration to local conditions. They should equip campus entry and exit points with thermal imaging screening devices and associated equipment, and also have a certain number of forehead thermometers as backups.

Tip: Configure an infrared screening device with a body temperature mode, which can provide calibration temperature points and correction values for actual use.

For example, with this calibrated infrared forehead thermometer shown in the image, if the displayed temperature is 36.4℃, the actual temperature should be 36.4℃ + 0.2℃ = 36.6℃.

    2. Venue Conditions Notice

Thermal imaging cameras have high environmental requirements and are susceptible to interference from external conditions. To avoid the impact of sunlight, rain, snow, typhoons, and other factors on accuracy, it is recommended to use them indoors. If there is no suitable space at the campus entrance and exit, it is suggested to set up an independent temperature measurement channel.

Tip: We recommend guiding students to avoid peak school hours and arranging for them to complete body temperature checks in an orderly manner, ensuring a safe distance between them.

    3. Operations and Maintenance Support Guidelines

The proper use and effective maintenance of the screening instrument are crucial for the school to ensure accurate temperature checks during the pandemic. The school should actively familiarize itself with the operation and maintenance procedures of the temperature measurement equipment, conduct simulated debugging after installation, and ensure the consistency and stability of temperature readings.
