JSH/JCQ Series Surge Arrester Online Monitor (formerly known as Surge Arrester Leakage Current and Operation Recorder) is an online monitoring instrument for surge arresters in AC high-voltage power systems. This instrument combines a milliammeter and a counter, which are connected in series in the surge arrester grounding circuit. The milliammeter in the monitor is used to measure the peak leakage current through the surge arrester under operating voltage, effectively detecting if the surge arrester is damp inside or if there are any abnormal internal components; the counter records the number of times the surge arrester operates under overvoltage conditions.
