    Surface Treatment

    Before the glass fiber reinforcement corrosion treatment, the base material must be surface-prepared. The purpose of this step is to remove dirt, grease, oxides, and other substances that may affect the adhesion of the coating. Common surface treatment methods include sandblasting, shot peening, acid washing, and mechanical polishing. These methods not only clean the surface but also increase the surface area of the base material, thereby enhancing the coating's adhesion.

    Primer Coating

    Primers are the foundation of anti-corrosion coatings for fiberglass, primarily serving to enhance the adhesion between the coating and the substrate, providing fundamental corrosion protection. The choice of primer should be determined by the type of substrate and the environmental conditions. For instance, if the substrate is steel, commonly used primers include epoxy zinc-rich primers or epoxy iron-red primers. During primer application, attention should be given to the thickness and uniformity of the coating to ensure effective corrosion protection.

    Surface Paint Coating

    The topcoat serves as the last line of defense for the corrosion-resistant coating of glass fiber reinforced plastics, primarily protecting the undercoat from environmental erosion and providing an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The choice of topcoat should be determined by the usage environment and aesthetic requirements. For instance, in marine environments, a topcoat with excellent salt mist resistance should be selected; if a vibrant color is desired for the coating, a corresponding colored topcoat should be chosen. Just as with the undercoat, attention should be given to the thickness and evenness of the topcoat during application.


    Furthermore, to enhance the corrosion resistance of glass fiber reinforced plastic products, the method of multi-layer coating can be adopted. For instance, adding one or more intermediate coatings between the primer and the topcoat, such as epoxy iron oxide intermediate paint or polyester intermediate paint. Multi-layer coating not only improves the corrosion resistance of the coating but also enhances its aesthetic appeal and service life.


    When conducting glass fiber reinforced plastic anti-corrosion treatment, attention must be given to the selection of construction environment and methods. For instance, the construction area should be kept clean and dry to avoid dust and moisture affecting the coating. The application methods can include brushing, rolling, or spraying, which should be determined based on the type of coating and construction conditions.
