The timing of the drying shrinkage cracking period in Sikal's grouting material and the associated challenges have been a long-standing issue. People have always hoped to create a grouting material that does not undergo water loss and drying shrinkage, and have tirelessly worked towards this goal. However, due to the inherent limitations of porous materials, this issue cannot be fundamentally resolved. Instead, improvements are made based on the understanding of capillary pore theory. For the current silicate cement system, pre-establishing sufficient compressive stress under restricted conditions is the effective and economical technical measure to compensate for shrinkage stresses caused by water loss later on, preventing grouting material shrinkage and cracking. Numerous studies and engineering practices have shown that low-expansion grouting materials can delay the appearance of drying shrinkage cracks, while medium or high-expansion grouting materials can indeed prevent the formation of drying shrinkage cracks in the grouting material.

Analysis of reasons for drying shrinkage leakage in Sikal grouting material:
Despite varying opinions among scholars regarding the details of the drying shrinkage mechanism of grouting materials, there is still no unified and completely satisfactory explanation. However, after many years of research, it is generally agreed that the main cause of shrinkage in hardened cement is the loss of water due to evaporation from capillary and gel pores. In other words, drying shrinkage causes water loss from capillary pores in the hardened slurry, leading to the formation of concave menisci, and this creates a pressure difference P between the inner and outer walls of the capillary pores. Essentially, the larger the P, the greater the drying shrinkage. The factors affecting P and their relationships are described by the Young-Laplace equation.
Thus, for grout materials with the same dosage of cementitious materials, water-cement ratio, fluidity, and environment, the drying shrinkage depends on the surface tension of the liquid in the capillary pores of the grout, the contact angle between the liquid and the capillary wall, and the radius of the capillary pores.

Prior to construction, strict control over grout and slurry is essential. The water-to-cement ratio should be related to the normal use of the product and its performance. The mixture ratio of grout to water is generally between 13.5-14 gallons, and the water amount should be controlled based on the product's width, length, and grouting layer. Generally, more water results in better fluidity, less water, and lower strength. However, it is also necessary to add water according to this standard.
The mixture ratio for grouting material is generally 0.28. This ratio is insufficient to control the grouting material. It is recommended that construction companies prepare the required tools and formulate the correct proportions before mixing.
