Brown fused aluminum oxide, commonly known as corundum, is a brown artificial corundum obtained by melting and reducing bauxite, carbon materials, and iron filings in an electric furnace.
Brown fused aluminum oxide primarily contains AL2O3, with a content ranging from 94.5% to 97%, and also includes trace amounts of Fe, Si, and Ti.




Brown corundum, due to its high hardness and good toughness, is widely used as an abrasive material and is one of the basic abrasives. Its main functions are as follows:
(1) Due to its high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and high strength, cast steel sliding nozzles are used for refining rare and precious metals, special alloys, ceramics, and the refractory lining (walls and pipes) of ironmaking blast furnaces; as well as for laboratory equipment, spark plugs, and heat-resistant, oxidation-resistant coatings.
(2) Due to its high hardness, excellent wear resistance, and high strength, it is used in chemical systems as various reaction vessels and piping, as well as components for chemical pumps. It is also employed in the production of mechanical parts, various molds such as wire drawing dies and pencil lead extrusion nozzles; as cutting tools, mold abrasives, bulletproof materials, human joint replacements, and sealing rings.
(3) Corundum thermal insulation materials, such as corundum lightweight bricks, corundum hollow spheres, and fiber products, are widely used in the walls and roofs of various high-temperature furnaces, offering both high-temperature resistance and thermal insulation.
Brown fused alumina grit sand is manufactured by manually screening brown fused alumina blocks and processed using equipment such as roller mills, ball mills, and Barmac machines. The particle size ranges from F8 to F325. It is primarily used for polishing, grinding, and industrial grinding, and can also be processed according to customer requirements, including water washing and acid washing.
