    Construction Warnings for Composite Geomembranes

    Geosynthetic composite membranes have been widely used in seepage prevention projects for canals. In recent years, the application and effectiveness of geosynthetic materials in civil engineering, particularly in flood control and emergency rescue projects, have garnered significant attention from the engineering community and technical personnel. The state has proposed standardized technical requirements for the application of geosynthetic materials, covering aspects such as seepage control, filtration, drainage, reinforcement, and protection, greatly accelerating the adoption of new materials. This material has been extensively applied in seepage prevention projects for irrigation canals. In conjunction with construction practices, the application technology of composite geosynthetic membranes has been discussed.

    Geosynthetic geomembranes are bonded together through side or side heating with far-infrared rays, forming a composite geomembrane with geotextiles. With the advancement of production technology, composite geomembranes now feature casting processes. Their configurations include one fabric, one membrane; two fabrics, one membrane; two membranes, one fabric.

    During construction, first level the base surface with finer sand or clay, followed by the laying of geotextile membrane. The geotextile membrane should not be stretched too tightly, allowing the buried portion at the soil surface to be wavy. Finally, place a 10cm transition layer on top of the geotextile membrane covered with fine sand or clay. Use 20-30cm blocks of stone (or precast concrete blocks) as the anti-corrosion layer.

    During construction, it is advisable to minimize direct stone impact on the geotextile membrane. It's best to establish a protective layer on one side of the membrane. The composite geotextile membrane should be bonded to the surrounding structure with expansion bolts and steel plates. The junction should be coated with emulsified asphalt (2mm thick) to prevent leakage.

    Embedded usage: Thickness should not be less than 30cm. The repair of the seepage control system should include: cushion layer, impermeable layer, transition layer, and protective layer. The soil should be solid to avoid uneven settlement and cracks. Turf and roots in the impermeable area should be removed. Smaller sand and soil particles should be used as a protective layer on the membrane surface.
