A gate valve is a shut-off device with a gate plate, whose movement is perpendicular to the fluid direction. It can only be fully open or fully closed, not used for throttling or regulating. The valve is sealed through contact between the valve seat and the gate plate, with the sealing surface typically surfacing with metal materials to enhance wear resistance, such as surfacing with 1Cr13, STL6, and stainless steel. The gate plate comes in rigid and elastic types, and accordingly, gate valves are categorized as rigid and elastic gate valves.
