[【Tech Tip】Your Brilliance, My Support! Common Issues and Solutions in Color Masterbatch Usage]
1 Under sunlight, the product features striped pigment bands
This issue requires consideration from two aspects: the physical and mechanical properties of plastics, and the plastic molding process.
1.1 The temperature control of the injection molding equipment is not proper; the color masterbatch cannot be fully mixed with the resin after entering the mixing chamber.
1.2 The injection molding machine lacks adequate back pressure, resulting in poor mixing effect of the screw.
1. Poor dispersion of the 3 color masterbatches or inadequate resin plasticization.
Process adjustments can be made as follows: 1. Slightly increase the temperature in the mixing chamber near the drop port. 2. Apply a certain amount of back pressure to the injection molding machine.
If the issue is not resolved after the above adjustments, it may be due to the dispersibility or matching problems of the color masterbatch or resin. Please contact the manufacturer of the color masterbatch granules for a solution.
2
After using a certain color masterbatch, the product appears more prone to cracking.
This may be due to the poor quality of dispersants or additives used by the manufacturer, resulting in poor mutual solubility and affecting the physical and mechanical properties of the product.
3
After using the proportion specified in the color masterbatch instruction manual, the color is too deep (too light).
This issue, though simple, presents numerous possibilities:
3.1. Color masterbatch not properly color matched; insufficient or excessive pigment.
3.2. Inaccurate measurement during use is prevalent, especially among domestic enterprises, particularly small and medium-sized ones, where arbitrary measurement practices are widespread.
3.3. There is an issue with the matching between color masterbatch and resin. This could be due to an inappropriate choice of carrier for the color masterbatch or the manufacturer arbitrarily changing the type of resin.
3.4. Inadequate machine temperature, color masterbatch stays in the machine for too long
Process Procedure: First, check if the resin type matches the color masterbatch and if the measurement is accurate. Next, adjust the machine's temperature or speed. If issues persist, contact the color masterbatch manufacturer.
4
Why do the same color masterbatch, resin, and formula produce products with varying shades when injected by different molding machines?
This is often due to the injection molding machine. Different machines, due to variations in manufacturing, usage time, or maintenance, can exhibit varying mechanical conditions, particularly differences in the tightness of the heating element's fit with the barrel. This can lead to different dispersion states of the color masterbatch within the barrel, resulting in the aforementioned phenomena.
5
Why did the color change after switching to a different brand of resin, with the same color masterbatch and formula?
Resins from different brands exhibit variations in density and melt index, which in turn affects their performance and compatibility with color masterbatches, potentially leading to color changes. Generally, as long as the density and melt index differences are minimal, the color variation will also be minor. Adjusting the amount of color masterbatch can help correct the color.
6
Does pigment migration occur during the storage of masterbatches and does it affect the quality of the products?
Some masterbatch colors contain a high concentration of colorants (or dyes), and in such cases, migration is normal. Particularly, masterbatch colors with added dyes can experience severe migration. However, this does not affect the quality of the product, as the pigments are at a normal coloring concentration once the masterbatch is injected into the product.
7
Why do some injection products lack luster?
There are multiple possibilities available:
7.1. Injection molding machine nozzle temperature too low
7.2. The mold finish of the injection molding machine is poor.
7.3. Product Shaping Cycle Too Long
7.4. Excessive titanium dioxide content in the masterbatch
7.5. Poor dispersion of color masterbatch
8
After a period of time, some plastic products may experience fading.
The quality of the basic pigments used by the manufacturer is poor, resulting in a shift phenomenon.
Changzhou Puleike Hongmei Color Masterbatch Co., Ltd. is one of the earliest domestic enterprises in China to specialize in the research and production of plastic color masterbatches. It is also the largest producer of polyolefin plastic color masterbatches and functional masterbatches in the East China region.
