The principle of the rubber vulcanization tester in determining the vulcanization characteristics of unvulcanized rubber compounds: A sample of unvulcanized rubber is placed in a sealed or nearly sealed mold cavity and maintained at a set test temperature. The mold cavity has two parts, upper and lower, with one part oscillating slightly. This oscillation induces shear strain in the sample, and the reactive torque (force) of the sample against the mold cavity is measured.
