The principle of sandblasting carving is to use high-pressure air concentrated through a nozzle with a diameter of 3-10mm to propel abrasive materials (including brown corundum, white corundum, steel shot, etc., with sharp edges) at high speed to impact the surface of stone or glass, thereby hollowing out the object being blasted to achieve the carving effect.
● Sandblasting Carving Operation Process:
Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) and Photoshop for graphic design, then use a computer-controlled engraving machine to cut patterns, text, logos, etc. onto adhesive paper (sandblasting protective film), similar to how roadside advertising shops create lettering. However, while they remove the unwanted parts, leaving only the letters, sandblasting engraving does the opposite. You apply the pre-engraved protective film to the object's surface, peel off the desired characters, and then control the sandblasting gun to etch the hollowed-out areas.
When high-pressure air drives silicon carbide to impact this area, the effect is like tens of thousands of -96 sand particles-sized chisels striking it, a hard-on-hard collision that clears away the areas requiring carving, forming text or patterns. Conversely, when it hits areas protected by a coating, since the coating is soft, the hard material bounces off, leaving the object underneath the protective coating intact and unchanged.
The depth of the carving is determined by the processing requirements, and the duration the airbrush stays affects the depth. To achieve a deeper carve, simply spray more on the areas that require deeper carving. That's all there is to it. This technique is not difficult at all; most people can master it in minutes, with no prior experience needed. The content carved is as neat and beautiful as the design on the computer, without deformation or distortion.
Low-cost carving, the material cost for carving one square foot, including protective film, electricity, and diamond abrasive, is approximately $12-20.
Rapid carving speed, such as carving a character 3 cm in size and 2 mm deep, takes only a few seconds. This is unmatchable by traditional hand carving and other CNC tooling methods.
