Supercritical CO2 extraction uses CO2 as a solvent, where the fluid density and dielectric constant of CO2 at supercritical state are high, leading to high solubility in substances. This solubility varies sharply with pressure and temperature, offering selectivity for certain substances and easy separation of the solvent and extracted material. Supercritical CO2 extraction is particularly suitable for extracting lipophilic, high-boiling point, and thermosensitive substances, as well as for fine separation of different components, known as supercritical refining. It is used for the extraction and purification of many products, including biological, food, and pharmaceuticals. II. Characteristics of Supercritical CO2 Extraction: 1.
