Machine tool castings, also known as large castings, beds, bases, and workbenches, feature: (1) Excellent wear resistance and vibration dampening properties. (2) Good process performance. Due to the high carbon content of gray cast iron, which is close to eutectic composition, it has a relatively low melting point, good fluidity, low shrinkage rate, making it suitable for casting complex structures or thin-walled castings. Additionally, as the graphite in gray cast iron facilitates the formation of chips during cutting, its machinability is superior to that of steel.
