DuPont Kevlar fiber, invented and manufactured by DuPont in 1965, is a composite material that combines superior traits of high strength and light weight. At the same weight, it offers five times the strength of steel, twice and a half the strength of E-grade glass fiber, and ten times the strength of aluminum, making it the strongest fiber in the world.

Temperature Performance
KEVLAR boasts excellent temperature resistance, capable of continuous use across a range of -196°C to +204°C without significant change or degradation. It is also non-soluble, flame-retardant (non-combustible), and starts to carbonize only at 427°C. Even at the low temperature of -196°C, it does not become brittle or lose performance, and it can withstand brief contact with temperatures up to 538°C.
Industrial Applications
KEVLAR boasts unique high tensile strength and low density properties, making it stronger, lighter, and easier to fabricate than aluminum alloy plates. It is particularly suitable for use as reinforcing fibers in abrasive products, having replaced traditional toxic asbestos in industrial applications such as conveyor belts, gas conveyance belts, gaskets, and washers, extending service life by up to seven times. In the automotive industry, KEVLAR is used in brake pads, brakes, clutches, radiators, pipes, drive belts, steel wires in radial tires, and starter rectifiers and engine gaskets, providing designers with vast opportunities for lightweighting and energy efficiency. It is also applied for seismic reinforcement in RC columns, concrete reinforcement, and as a substitute for asbestos, offering lightweight structures while maintaining appropriate structural strength.
Friction material
KEVLAR offers superior tensile and tear resistance compared to asbestos or glass fiber, does not melt at high temperatures like glass and seep a smooth surface, and since KEVLAR is non-metallic, it does not rust. The unique nature of KEVLAR, different from glass and metal materials, makes it lighter on drum surfaces and less prone to wear and scratches, significantly extending the lifespan of brake use. When considering cost and usage time, using KEVLAR friction products is more economical and cost-effective than products made from metal or asbestos.
Ropes, cables, communication materials
KEVLAR has replaced many steel cable applications, from thin ropes to thick ship cables, as well as communication optical fibers and submarine communication cables, etc. Its strength and flexibility allow the cables to withstand high loads and are highly manageable. KEVLAR's strength and tensile properties also make it an ideal material for lightweight ropes like yacht lines. Beyond its light weight and hardness, KEVLAR's non-magnetic and insulating properties, fiber-reinforced optical cables, have successfully replaced traditional steel cables, communication balloon antennas, and even found use in electronic substrate materials, high-performance audio systems, emerging as a standout in advanced high-tech transmission technologies.

KEVLAR is applied in protective gear like helmets or vests, utilizing its principle of absorbing impact energy and dispersing it to other fibers, making these soft protective items more comfortable to wear and agile in movement. KEVLAR gloves are specially designed for work, offering greater durability and resistance to cuts compared to gloves made from other materials, while maintaining hand flexibility and comfort. Their cut-resistant and puncture-resistant properties minimize the risk of injury; their high flame resistance and low thermal conductivity provide excellent fire protection and prevent burns from high temperatures.
Sports & Leisure
Composite materials made of KEVLAR offer vibration absorption and the ability to withstand continuous impacts, making them lighter, stronger, and more resistant to damage than glass fiber reinforced materials. This has led many aircraft and ships originally using aluminum alloy plates to gradually switch to KEVLAR. It can also be used as hull and reinforcing materials, making the vessels lighter and faster.
