Concept Introduction
Polycarbonate(Abbreviated as PC) is a high polymer containing a carbonate group in its molecular chain. It can be categorized into various types, such as aliphatic, aromatic, and aliphatic-aromatic, based on the structure of the ester group. Due to the lower mechanical properties of aliphatic and aliphatic-aromatic polycarbonates, their application in engineering plastics is limited.
Primary Application
The three major application fields of PC engineering plastics are glass assembly, automotive industry, and electronics and electrical industries. Following these are industrial mechanical components, CDs, packaging, office equipment such as computers, healthcare, films, recreational, and protective gear.PC PlasticUsed for door and window glass, PC laminated sheets are extensively employed in protective windows of banks, embassies, detention centers, and public places. Cautionary Notes
Due to the necessity of adding bisphenol A in the manufacturing of polycarbonate, and since bisphenol A has been officially classified as a toxic substance by the Canadian federal government on April 18, 2008, and is strictly prohibited in food packaging, the safety of polycarbonate is a matter of concern. The EU believes that bottles containing bisphenol A can induce precocious puberty, and as of March 2, 2011, the sale of baby bottles containing the chemical bisphenol A (BPA) has been banned. The Chinese Ministry of Health and other departments have announced that as of September 1, 2011, the import and sale of polycarbonate baby bottles and other baby bottles containing bisphenol A are prohibited, with the responsibility for recalling these products lying with the manufacturers or importers.
